One
of the ancient customs in Cyprus and Greece is the ritual of cutting the
Christmas cake on the New Year’s. The coin, which is put in the cake,
brings the happiness and content to the one
who finds it.
The
community of Paphos, Cyprus, had the idea of having gigantic cake made for
the celebration of the new millennium. All the effort was taken on by
George Thrasivoulides, the owner of “Morello” patisserie together with
the team of ten assistants who worked for thirty-five hours without a
break.
The
ingredients used for making the cake were these: 105 kilos of butter, 250
kg of sugar, 85 l orange juice, 20 l of brandy, 450 kg of flour, 3900
pieces of eggs, 5 kg of cocoa, 2 kg of vanilla sugar, 3 kg of granulated
of orange, 120 kg of almonds, 550 kg of icing sugar and 100l of water.
